Name: Dr Ohnmar Khaing
Dr Ohnmar Khaing has 22 years of professional experience in food security, agricultural development and rural livelihoods, with special focus on science-policy interfaceand building the foundationfor improving food sovereignty and empowering women; project design, development and management; capacity-building and raising of public awareness.She is now working at Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) as a Myanmar Program Manager. She spent over 6 years (July 2009-August 2015) for the Food Security Working Group (FSWG) Myanmar, working on the development of food security strategy and its implementation with concerned partners, including the impacts of climate change and response measures.DrKhaing has previously worked for the World Food Programme (WFP) as an Agricultural Specialist (June 2006-May 2008). She was Senior Research Officer, Department of Agricultural Research, Myanmar (November 2003 – December 2005); SeniorResearcher, Royal Thai Agricultural Research Department (May – October 2003); and Supervisor, Agricultural Extension Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Myanmar (1994 – 2003).She received a PhD in Tropical Agriculture (2003)from Kasetsart University, Thailand; a Master of Science in Plant Protection-Entomology (1998)and a Bachelor of Agriculture (General Agriculture) (1991) from Yezin Agricultural University, Myanmar. She was awarded a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship which enabled her to spend about a year (June 2008-June 2009) at Cornell University, New York. She received a Certificate in Rural Development Planning and Management (2009) from Cornell University.
